On behalf of Eigentümerinitiative Bahnhofsviertel (The Railway Station Area Owners’ Initiative), SUMMETIX conducted a study on hotel and restaurant reviews on Google Maps over the last few years. The study focused on the area around Frankfurt’s central train station and highlights how local businesses are being impacted by the reputation of the area.
While there is some positive feedback regarding the central location of the central station area, SUMMETIX was tasked to find out what the challenges were. SUMMETIX ran 400 000 negative online review comments through its proprietary Large Language Model solution. Crime, drug use, and poor upkeeping of streets were drivers of negative reviews.
Hotels guests are even more negative in their feedback than restaurant reviewers. Mainly as hotel guests encounter the drug scene that becomes more active late at night.
Highlighted reasons for negative reviews: drug addicts, homeless, unsafe streets, unsafe for solo travelers, uncomfortable walking, drugged people on the ground, and high number of criminals. Together, these issues accounted for more than half (52.39%) of all negative reviews for hotels in the area.
In a press release, Eigentümerinitiative Bahnhofsviertel outlines how the challenges cause substantial damage to their members’ businesses. And that only 3.6% of the negative comments were related to issues that the hotel or restaurant could impact themselves (Label: poor service).
Thanks to this collaboration between Eigentümerinitiative Bahnhofsviertel and SUMMETIX, the insights can now be used to better understand priorities to improve the area.
